4 Techniques To Help You Achieve A Weed Free Garden

As a homeowner, maintaining your yard is one of the most important ways to maintain the overall curb appeal of your home. One way to achieve this is to keep the lawn weed free, which is always easier said than done. Luckily, it can be achieved with the help of these four simple techniques:

1. Keep the Ground Covered: Weeds thrive in areas where there is open soil. This allows weeds to push through, grow, and spread easily. Keeping your landscaping full by covering the ground with grass and other plants, it's easier to control weeds, especially if you are growing thick plants that take up a lot of soil space. This prevents weeds from even being able to push out in the first place, and thus completely being starved of the light that they need to thrive. 
2. Don't Dig Through the Ground: When gardening, it's best to adjust the soil and aerate it on the top only rather than digging deep down. The reason being that when you sow deep into the earth, it allows dormant weed seeds to get light exposure and thus begin to grow. You will notice quickly after sowing the landscaping that weeds start popping up. This is why it's suggesting to only worry about topsoil only. 
3. Be Liberal With Mulch: Any bare areas of the yard where you are not able to plant new plants or grass, you are going to want to spread with mulch. This includes bare areas between plants in the yard. This is going to push the weeds down into the earth rather than rise up. However, even if they do rise up, it's easier to pull them out because the mulch is much looser compared to the soil. 
4. Be Mindful of Water: Do not over water your yard since this is how weeds begin to grow through. It not only gives them the nutrients that they need, but it also loosens up the soil so that they can begin to push through. On top of this, with more watering, especially on the grass, they begin to become reliant on it, and thus don't grow their roots deep into the earth, but rather shallow, which makes it weaker and thus not as reliable to prevent weed growth.
